This Privacy Policy explains how Moon (“Moon,” “we,” “us”) handles information when you use the Moon plugin, the Moon dashboard, and this website (together, the “Services”). Moon is a moderation suite for Minecraft servers. We built it to help server owners protect their communities, and we try to collect only what that job requires.
1. Who this policy covers
Moon serves two kinds of people, and it's worth being clear about both:
- Operators, the server owners and staff who create a Moon account and manage a server from the dashboard.
- Players, the people who play on a server that runs Moon. Players do not have Moon accounts, and their information reaches us only through the operator's server.
2. Information we collect
From operators
- Account details you provide, such as your email address, display name, and the third-party identity (for example, a Discord login) you use to sign in.
- Security data needed to protect your account, including two-factor authentication settings and sign-in activity.
- Billing information, if you subscribe to a paid plan. Payment card details are processed by our payment provider and are not stored on Moon's servers.
From connected servers
- Moderation records, meaning reports, mutes, bans, and the reasons and durations attached to them.
- Player identifiers relevant to moderation, such as Minecraft usernames and UUIDs, and the connection signals Moon uses for alt and VPN detection.
- Chat content that Moon evaluates for its filtering features, and metadata about the events it scores.
Automatically
- Basic technical data such as IP address, browser type, and timestamps, used to operate and secure the Services.
3. How we use information
We use the information above to:
- provide the moderation features you configure, including detection, enforcement, and the audit log;
- authenticate operators and keep accounts secure;
- maintain, debug, and improve the Services;
- process payments and manage subscriptions; and
- comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use player chat content to advertise to you.
4. Legal bases
Where the GDPR or similar laws apply, we process personal data on the bases of performing our contract with operators, our legitimate interest in operating a safe service, your consent where required, and compliance with legal obligations.
5. Sharing
We share information only as needed to run the Services: with infrastructure and payment providers acting on our behalf under contract, with an operator's own authorized staff through the dashboard, and where required by law or to protect the rights and safety of users. If Moon is involved in a merger or acquisition, information may transfer as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.
6. Retention
We keep moderation records for as long as the operator's account is active, so that punishment history and appeals remain meaningful, and for a reasonable period afterward unless a shorter period is required by law. Operators can delete records and close their account, after which we remove or anonymize associated data within a commercially reasonable time, except where retention is legally required.
7. Security
Moon uses measures such as encrypted transport, two-factor authentication for operators, scoped access roles, and a tamper-evident audit log. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect data in proportion to its sensitivity.
8. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. Operators can exercise most of these directly from the dashboard. Players should contact the operator of the server they play on in the first instance, since that operator controls the server's moderation data; we will support operators in responding to such requests.
9. Children
The Moon dashboard is intended for server operators and is not directed to children. Players interact with Moon only through a server; operators are responsible for complying with any age-related obligations that apply to their community.
10. International transfers
Moon may process information in countries other than your own. Where we transfer personal data across borders, we rely on appropriate safeguards as required by applicable law.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify operators through the dashboard.
12. Contact
Questions about this policy or your data can be sent to privacy@moonhq.net, or reach us through moonhq.net.
